Almost every summer we try to spend a few days in Tofino and enjoy the endless beaches as well as the crisp coastal air in our lungs. This year however we did not venture too far from our home and I’ve been dreaming of Fogust in Tofino. I’ve decided to share with you a few places from the last time we visited.
Where To Stay.
If you’ve read my NO VACANCY post you will know Tofino is definitely a plan before you go destination. DO NOT try to wing it. Make sure you have your accommodations secured before you reserve a spot of the Ferry. It also doesn’t hurt to phone around and try to secure a great deal. We managed to get a room at Inn At Tough City. The Inn doubles as a sushi restaurant on the main floor which closes relatively early with affordable accommodations on the top floors. It was August 19, 2018, and we got what felt like the last room in Tofino. (Because we did)
We stayed in the room above the sushi restaurant and it was a little less expensive than the others. We never heard a sound from the restaurant. The room was clean with a large washroom and soaker tub. I was chuffed by the decor of the building with various vintage and antique items. We had a balcony with a partial view of the ocean and the street. We would definitely stay here again.

What To Eat
Breakfast.
There is no shortage of cool coffee shops and eateries in Tofino but we are creatures of habit and only went to one or two coffee shops. The one which stands out in my mind is The Schooner Restuarant. We loved the fact that you could get something to go quickly or sit down for a lovely meal. I was particularly obsessed with their massive muffins.
Lunch

For our lunches, we gathered food from the local grocery store and brought it along to the beaches or trails we visited. We also stopped by the famous Tofino brewery the adults had a couple pints and the little one had Kombucha. We loved the brewery it had a very welcoming atmosphere and even ran into some of our friends from the mainland. We just wished they offered a little more eats.
Dinner
I find the dinner bell tolls for everyone at the same time in Tofino, On the main strip everyone is going out to eat at practically the same time but luckily there is no shortage of great places to eat. We enjoyed food from the following places.
- Shelter
- Sobo
- Schooner Restaurant
- Sushi Bar
- Tofino Brewery
- Rhino Coffee House
To name a few, Most of these restaurants offered an assortment of very fresh seafood on their menus.
Things to do.
Tofino is a place for the ocean lover and ones with a need for adventure. There is little no shortage of things to do for the whole family or just as a couple. Tofino is known for it’s surfing town and offers year-round surfing.
Tofino is also home to the Pacific Rim National Reserve and is a largely a National Park. There are many trails, beaches, and oceanic excursions you are able to partake of here are a few.
- Whale Watching (from an ethical distance)
- Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
- Radar Mountain
- Big Tree Trail
And there are also all the lovely beaches.
- Chesterman Beach
- Cox Bay Beach
- Mackenzie Beach
- Pacific Rim National Park Reserve Beach.
We also happened upon a community market where we purchased t-shirts and other handmade goods from local artisans. There is no shortage of shopping in Tofino. I stocked up on some of the best body products I’ve tried from Shoreline Body Company.

Ucluelet

We also hopped over to Ucluelet for a couple of hours to explore the Wild Pacific Trail. We’ve promised ourselves to book a full week of island adventures the next time we happen to be in that neck of the woods.
We only stayed in Tofino for three days and two nights, We didn’t get to do nearly as much as we wanted. We spent the majority of our time playing in the breakers at the foggy beaches and we were content.
