When I moved to Mission this summer the first thing I set out to find was where the shopping was. And by shopping I don’t mean big box stores. I mean locally owned stores with real makers and stories behind them.Well, There isn’t much but in a tiny town there is a few neat spots and a collective of beautifully made artisan items. While walking through the downtown of Mission B.C. I happened upon Mossy Creek & Co.

Mossy Creek & Co. featured a wide variety of gifts, boutique items and trendy clothing. I fell immediately in love with the overall atmosphere of the store. There was an air of friendliness, relaxed vibes. As if they had spritz some lavender in the air LOL. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Also, loved the fact that they weren’t trying to force SALES on you. If I were interested in an item, the shop attendant would offer necessary information and left me to browse quietly. Â That is so refreshing for me. After years of retail management, I Â HATE a forced sale. I didn’t do my usual prying to figure out if the store was owned by a single person or a number of individuals but by all accounts they had been open for not a very long time.

I had recently moved so I needed nothing but to unpack my things, But I found a couple candles which I couldn’t say no to. I loved the packaging because it reminded me so much of when I used to make candles. Yes, I used to sell soy candles at Farmer’s markets and on Etsy. That’s for another post.
The candles are made by Canvas Candle Company. Canvas Candle Company is locally owned and operates out of  Port Moody. They also stock their candles with quite a few local companies such as Mossy Creek and Co. I decided to go with the Sister, Sister candle.

What struck me most was the scent blend of the candle. It was pure artistry, To properly scent an ecosoy candle is no easy fete. When I opened candle my senses were greeted with aromas of Lavender, Â Rum and Musk – Berry Musk to be exact. The candle also burned clean with no smoke or soot and evenly distributed the scent throughout the room. This is instantly a new favourite.
I’ve since sought out some other scents I loved from CANVAS Candle Co. Which leads me to the real reason of this post. Don’t let shopping local just be a buzz phrase or a hashtag you use. I’ve incorporated shopping local into my lifestyle. I read a meme once that said.
“When you shop from a small business a REAL person does a happy dance.”
And that’s so true, I’ve been that person. When you support small business everyone profits, The shop owner, The Artisan and so on. The money then gets reinvested in the community.

I’ve decided this Christmas to try and give as many locally sourced gifts as possible. I’ll be seeking out all the quaint little boutiques in the Fraser Valley. So if you have any recommendations please send them my way.Â
Hope you enjoy this little read and have a look at Canvas Candles. All reviews and opinions are my own and I purchased this product.
